New Year, New Beginnings
I've spent the better part of 2012 building a new studio. During that time I was able to generate a considerable amount of studies for paintings I then hoped to one day bring to fruition.
The hiatus from physically painting turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Over months I was able to truly explore my vision.

Artist Statement
Kaleidoscoptical is a journey through the mindscape of geometric abstraction and optical illusion in which I explore visual perception and cognition through the interaction of color and form.
I achieve this, not by turning a dial on a toy to allow color to reflect off mirrors but by creating a motif composed of multiple shapes and layers painted with opaque and translucent encaustic paint, a medium that refracts light in its own way.
The Kaleidoscoptical series as a whole is made up of sub-sets of paintings that are differentiated by the first four numerical digits in their title. The paintings in each of these sub-sets are generated from a singular design matrix that is unique to that grouping. Varying the colors and the order in which the elements are layered allows for an unlimited series of paintings that although united by a similar matrix, can once assembled, appear unrelated.
The entire process, like a kaleidoscope, repeats itself over and over, but each result is different.

WOW!
WOW!
National Show of Encaustic Work
Curated by: Elena De La Ville
November 3 - December 31, 2011
Opening Reception: November 3, 2011, 5PM - 8PM
WOW! Women & Wax will feature leading artists in the field who are dedicated to the innovation of contemporary art and ideas. Artists from around the country were chosen for their innovative and contemporary use of the Encaustic medium. The exhibit provides a platform for dialogue and education, while increasing the understanding and appreciation of encaustic art.
Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting wherein beeswax, resin and pigment are layered and then fused to produce a luminous surface that both captures and transforms light. These artists melt, layer, scrape, and sculpt to create their individual vision in wax.
